    Nocturnal Designs' dark aesthetic 100% beeswax molded candles (SDS available upon request) are ethically sourced & artisan-crafted using eco-friendly & ethical liquid dyes & minerals. No two candles are exactly alike even if we strive to make them identical. Each wax shade created is custom blended to ensure a dark, vibrant color is achieved. Our wicks and molds are carefully selected to allow for a long burn time and an attractive wax shell to remain as burning aesthetically shaped candles inherently leaves wax behind. So instead of throwing away the remaining wax, reuse the wax shell as decor by displaying the crystal or stone included with your candle, our witchy goth potpourri, items from loved ones who've passed, or whatever else your heart desires for a unique piece of handmade decor.
     
    ~*~ INFORMATION BEFORE ORDERING ~*~
     
    Please note, we are unable to mass produce a particular design as each candle is handmade in small batches. So, if you see something you like, please be aware it may never be reborn in its exact likeness. However, we do our best to recreate candles that have sold so please be as detailed as possible when placing your order. The number of custom orders we take at any given point is limited to reduce turnaround time as we are often taking additional custom orders in-person.  Please reach out if you wish to order more than one of a particular design. Turnaround time is less than 10 days in total.
     
    You can find examples of our work all across this website & Instagram. We do sell off our website on places like Etsy, but generally speaking any piece available for sale is posted on Instagram, then posted here first. We try our best to take pictures of custom orders & post to I.G. to help inspire others in their design process. 
     
    ~*~ INSTRUCTIONS ~*~

    ~*~ WHEN SELECTING A COLOR(S) ~*~
     
    Include a color or two you want the beeswax to be dyed with and what you want to be the dominant color based on percentage. Like 75% black 25% darker shade of red like "blood red".
     
    All candles can be done in a split color fashion, or with the outside in mostly one color, inside in another color. In the case of the flowers, a marbled color effect can be achieved. Naturally, anything can be done in one solid color. 
     
    Many of our candles are done in two colors so when you burn them, they produce not only a gorgeous shimmer but a color morphing effect!

    Please note if you do or do not want the candle painted in shimmery eco-friendly & ethical mineral paint. You'll see all our candles are hand-decorated in gorgeous shimmery mineral paints, which reduce the amount of bloom produced by the beeswax. We're more than happy to do a matte look with no shimmer, just be aware the candle bloom will be more apparent and frequent, particularly in colder more humid climates.
     
    No, the minerals do not smother the wick as it's only put on the outside, so the candle is not overloaded with it but will produce a gorgeous shimmery wax. Further, we use flat and square-braided wicks of superior quality, sized just right. 
     
    Typically we use complimenting colors when adding shimmer. Like gold over top of deep purple wax. Due to having so many different mineral pigments/limited character space, please allow some creative freedom. Simply mention colors to avoid and if you want less, or more mineral paint.

    EXAMPLE OF A RECENT IN-PERSON ORDER: 
    She wanted a primarily black (75%) Lilith's Seduction (skull with snakes), with a touch of red wax (25%) and couldn't make up her mind between black and purple wax, and black and red wax. So, we proposed black and red wax covered in various shades of purple mineral paint. She also referenced a candle image on I.G. that had LESS mineral paint and darker shades of mineral paint.

    ~*~ STEP 2: COLOR SELECTION ~*~
     
    1. Black
    2. Scarlet Red
    3. Mossy true green
    4. Teal
    5. Magenta
    6. Sun-bleached beeswax (undyed), or a bit of a muted white
    7. Dark purple
    8. Spooky lime green
    9. Pumpkin orange
    10. Indigo blue
     
    Typically we do darker shades because of branding and because yellow beeswax is easily covered up by darker shades. However, we can use white beeswax as an accent as well. White beeswax has a bit of a smokey smell to it and very little honey smell. This is because it's sun-bleached, and then triple-filtered, not chemically bleached, to remove any remaining color. This leaves a semi-translucent white beeswax vs. a very opaque white as you will see with chemically bleached beeswax. For environmentally conscious reasons we choose to use naturally sun-bleached white beeswax.
     
    Each order comes with a crystal or stone to spark your creativity in reusing your candle's shell once burned! Candles $23 and under receive 1 or 2 small crystals & candles $24 and over receive 1 large crystal. The last image shows examples of what you could receive.

    Suggestions on how to reuse your candle shell:
     
    • As decor to go on your altar with your loved one's belongings like jewelry or a photo nestled inside with herbs, crystals & a smudge stick.
    • To hold your spiritual cleansing supplies.
    • To hold your favorite crystals.
    • To hold our handmade potpourri for some lovely scented decor.
    • To hold the remains of any spell work.
     
    Due to our 'Rose Orb Bouquet' being very heavy, shipping is set higher to account for this. Orders weighing over 1 lb but under 4 lbs ship at the same rate. 
     
    ~*~ Display pieces are not included. ~*~

    • To be more environmentally friendly we do not include a candle care card.  Further, the cost of using fully biodegradable and recyclable materials for a professionally printed care card would increase the price of our candles. Instead, we put candle care instructions on each listing we create and hand-write basic instructions on recyclable craft paper sealing the letter with a wax seal. That said, we burn test each candle design to figure out the best way to get an attractive shell to reuse while maximizing burning time. Each candle has a 'burn time' range. The lower value will achieve a more attractive shell. The majority of our candles have a very tight range so burning until you use up the entire wick won't make that much of a difference in the final shell.   

      • MOON PHASES CANDLE: For the best experience burn the pillar so it makes a direct cylinder down the center of the pillar. As the candle burns downward the heat will rise burning away wax from higher up. If you burn too long early on you could shorten the burning time of this candle and end up with a less than attractive shell to reuse. Recommended burn time per session 1-2 hrs. Check the wax pool frequently to achieve desired 'shell'. Take proper care to not over-burn i.e. leave burning unattended for 2.5+ hrs.

      • LILITH'S SEDUCTION SKULL & SNAKES CANDLE: For the best experience burn this candle so it makes a direct cylinder down the center for 3 - 4 hrs. per session. As the candle burns downward the heat will rise burning away wax from higher up. Check the wax pool as you burn this candle because once you get about mid-way longer burning times can cause the wax to come out of the eyes. We did not intend for this to be a bleeding candle as that would SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the burn time of this candle so we placed the wick further back. However, 3+ hr. burn sessions can still cause this effect. If you do not want that effect and 'shell' shape, please watch your candle when it gets mid-way burning for no more than 3 hrs at a time. Take proper care to not over-burn i.e. leave burning unattended for 4+ hrs.

      • ROSE ORB BOUQUET CANDLE: For the best experience burn this candle so it makes a direct cylinder down the center for 3 - 4 hrs. per session. As the candle burns downward the heat will rise burning away wax from higher up. Check the wax pool as you burn this candle because once you get mid-way longer burning times of 4 hrs. can cause the wax to come out of the thinner parts of the orb so do not burn for more than 2-3 hrs. once mid-way or lower keeping a close eye on it so you do not lose roughly 10 hrs. of burn time. Take proper care to not over-burn i.e. leave burning unattended for 4+ hrs.

      • BLEEDING SKULL TOWER OF THE FALLEN: For the best experience burn the candle so it makes a direct cylinder down the center of the pillar. As the candle burns downward the heat will rise burning away wax from higher up. If you burn too long early on you could shorten the burning time of this candle and end up with a less than attractive shell to reuse. Burn for 45mins-1hr per session if you plan to reuse this candle. It's a bit more finicky than our other sculptures, but if you're patient you will get a nice 'bleed' effect and the skulls will 'gently' drop off leaving some behind as seen in our example 'inspo' image. Patience will also maximize burn time. Take proper care to not over-burn i.e. leave burning unattended for 2+ hrs.

      • THREE-EYED CAT CANDLE: For the best experience burn the candle so it makes a direct cylinder down the center for 2-3 hrs. per session. As the candle burns downward the heat will rise burning away the wax from higher up. Check the wax pool periodically while burning until the desired 'shell' is achieved for reuse. Take proper care to not over-burn i.e. leave burning unattended for 4+ hrs.

      • DARK FLORAL PEONY & HEART FLOWER VOTIVES: For the best experience burn the candle so it makes a direct cylinder down the center. As the candle burns downward the heat will rise burning away wax from higher up. If you burn too long early on you could shorten the burning time of this candle and end up with a less than attractive shell to reuse. The suggested burn time per session is 1.5-2 hrs. for peony flowers & 1-1.5 hrs for the heart flower. Check the wax pool until the desired diameter is achieved. Take proper care to not over-burn i.e. leave burning unattended for 2.5+ hrs.
